There is no ‘nice way’ to talk about racism except to just say it like it is. No matter which angle you come at it from, someone is bound to get upset or feel uneasy with the truth. The truth is many people do not understand it but are willing to argue their ignorance until the cows come home.
It strikes me one way to tackle the problem is to educate the young from primary school age, about racism. To this end I have started a petition to introduce the idea and get support for British schools to introduce a curriculum to teach children of all cultures about racism. It’s a simple yet big idea.
British Schools Teach Black History Petition
I have created a petition on Change.org to urge British schools to teach children of all cultures about racism, as part of their curriculum. It’s a simple yet big idea.
It is abundantly clear that many people, especially those from a non-ethnic culture, do not truly understand what is really meant by the term ‘racism’. Hurling a racial slur word at somone is only a tiny part of the much bigger and endemic problem.
Many do not know its history nor its impact yet they most benefit from ‘white privilege’ and respond to criticism with answers that deflect solutions, mainly out of ignorance.
The teaching of black history in schools would remedy that and give everyone, students of all cultures, a common grounding of knowledge on a topic which is emerging as one of the most important in the modern era.
Should British Schools Teach Black History?
What do you think? Should British schools teach Black History? Would the teaching of Black History in British help to fight racism? Drop me a line.
If you prefer please sign the petition on Change.org. Obviously, the more signatures, the stronger statement it will make when presented before those who need convincing.
