US President Donald Trump is apparently dazzled by American actress Meghan Markle. This is our conclusion after watching his psychotic behaviour over the last few days.
We have come to realise that whenever one of Donald Trump’s tweets become the focus of the mainstream news the first question to ask: “What is dominating the news that he wishes to drown out?”
His tweet two days ago re-tweeting British far-right group Britain First’s anti-Muslim video perfectly fitted this paradigm. The item dominating the news was Prince Harry and Megan’s engagement announcement.
Trump Meghan Markle Sparkle
As a media event, it was total gridlock on all platforms, channels, lanes, streets, roads and even avenues. We already know that Ms. Markle do not like Trump one bit. She has said so on several occasions. We can only assume Trump knows this because he is the kind of psycho who takes such things hyper personally and probably keeps a database list of all the people who hates him.
There is only one thing Trump hates more than when someone detests him. He simply hates it when he is not the centre of attention. It always has to be about him. When someone he knows detests him but gets the media limelight lion’s share, which is a positive no.
So, what does Trump do to prise the media attention away from the royal engagement? He cynically retweets the far-right video.
Both the topics (anti-Islam, terrorism, far wing) and the location (the UK) carefully selected to wrestle the maximum attention and spark controversy to boot. Nothing gets your attention more than something controversial flying over continents, borders and jurisdictions.
Not All About Trump
Fast-forward to now where the conversation is all about Donald Trump retweeting far-right group’s tweet. British PM Theresa May rebukes him for doing so. Trump fires back a salvo that Britain should focus on containing terrorism within its borders. London Mayor Sidiq Khan, a long time Trump critic, repeats a suggestion that Britain should withdraw an invitation for Trump to visit Britain next year.
British MPs wade in on the brouhaha. This all plays nicely into Trump’s hands by knocking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement news and jubilation off the front pages and out of people’s minds. Job done Trump.
I will be watching for when the next Trump controversy rears its ugly head to gauge whether my prognosis is correct. I was previously aware of the theory. However, I did not consciously focused on proving it practically. Rest assured that my eyes are now widely opened. I will be watching the media space more carefully for any signs of this phenomenon. You too, best watch this space.
Do we have a deal?
